With a sigh, Brick sets down his sandwich as it is now time to start the show. Brick dabs his lips with his tie as he takes one last loving look at his sandwich before letting out a soft whimper. He then turns in his chair to be in good view of the camera.

The chipotle mayonnaise stain on his tie aside, he looks pretty good.

“Hello all and welcome to the first edition of ‘Interview Corner’ with me! Brick Ramrock. I know what your first question will be and no, I won’t be interviewing myself. It would rock. It would be that awesome type cool, but no. Tonight I’m welcoming a new and potentially rad addition to the Fight Union roster. Her name is Nova like the car, but she’s, like, way hotter. Ok? So let’s give her a great ‘Interview Corner’ welcome!”

Instead of standing up to welcome Nova as she steps into the scene, Brick quickly clutches his sandwich and takes one last desperate bite before turning his attention to Nova. He chews back bits of the sandwich as he offers her a chair.

“Have a seat,” he says between bites, “Late lunch,” Brick starts to choke.

His eyes grow wide over a struggling gasp. He stands erect abruptly like he’s just been struck by lightning. His life flashes before his eyes right as Nova rams a skillful palm strike into his back which jettisons the piece of sandwich from his throat.

“Oh god. Oh god. That was close. Whole life. Every awesome moment. Right before my eyes.”

Brick shakes a moment as Nova looks him over and now offers him a seat.

“Thank you. You’re an angel.”

Nova looks on at him awkwardly.

“It’s no problem,” She slides her fingers through her hair nervously and takes a seat.

Brick straightens his suit and takes his seat. He hits her with his best ‘I’m in control’ look and cocks his head to the side, “I totally had that under control, just so you know. Really just wanted to test your heimlich abilities,” Brick nods approvingly, “You passed.”

Brick stares at her for a moment, wondering if she’s a nun, perhaps, but stops and eyeballs the rest of his sandwich, lovingly. He forces himself to turn his attention back to the task at hand.

“Nova. Welcome to the show. It’s great to have you here. I picked you mainly because no one knows anything about you, other than the fact that you’re a ‘face’ who does ‘run-ins’. Care to comment on that?”

She never really loses that awkward glance at Brick, this being one of the first times she’s been exposed to a bona fide wrestling interviewer, let alone Brick.

“Uhm,” She clears her throat, “Not–not really sure where to begin with that, to be honest. I’m new to this. So maybe I don’t do it the way everyone else does it, you know? I did a run-in in another company, and I’m not sure it’s as big a deal as anyone made it out to be. I was fresh to the show over there at FORCE, and I wanted to make my presence felt. I guess what, to me, was a challenge to a competitor I wanted to test myself against was, to him and his manager, a cowardly ‘run-in’.” She feels herself shrugging and inwardly second-guessing her answer already.

“That’s me, Brick Ramrock. I ask the hard hitting questions that no one expects! I like the way you yelled FORCE from out of nowhere. It’s kind of like when I’m talking to someone and say HEY I HAVE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM from out of nowhere. See? We have that in common. Can’t always control the volume of our voices. I like it. I like it. Well, I’m sure over there at FORCE that those guys thought you were a coward, but here at FIGHT UNION,” Brick has to pause for a sip of Fresca to wet his already sore throat, “We just want to get to know you, before we make any snap decisions.”

Brick shuffles through his notecards and flashes another glance at the sandwich, but has a deep fear inside that if he eats in front of Nova that she might not find him as desirable as he thinks she already finds him.

He spots a question in his cards and cocks his head to the side, “Hard hitting question…. Number two… What’s your favorite color?”

She whisks strands of hair behind her ear and wonders if Brick interviews everyone like this.

“Uhm, seriously?” She has to think about it. It’s not like it’s an important question, or is it? Is this a cleverly crafted test? Something psychological? She blinks.

“I guess I’d have to say Cerulean Blue.” She smiles proudly at her honest answer.

“I’ve never heard of Sea Royal Eon Blue. Sounds awesome. Good answer,” Brick nods approvingly, “This is totally a cleverly crafted test. I’m like the Dr. Phil of questions. So, let’s hit you with another really tough one.”

Brick thinks. Then he thinks some more. The camera zooms in on him as his eyes grow wide and he begins to sweat. He continues to think, growing more nervous by the moment, until finally a stage hand walks up beside him and whispers into his ear.

Brick snaps out of it, “So… You’re taking on the Prankster, Lara Bratton,” Brick pauses, growing nervous again. The stagehand returns and whispers in Brick’s ear again. This time Brick rolls to his side and giggles.

“Your whiskers tickle!”

Finally, Nico Sutton steps out from behind the camera area and whispers something into Brick’s ear and follows it up with a smack to the back of the head. As Nico leaves, Brick suddenly seems clear and ready to go.

“Lara Bratton. Your opponent. What’s your initial impression of her? Oh and to clarify, I don’t mean to do an impression of her, I mean… What do you think of her?”

In spite of the preamble, Nova’s eyes look focused at the mention of her opponent for her debut match in Fight Union.

“She seems like a dynamic woman, capable of of countless surprises. She doesn’t strike me as the most polished of combatants, but I’d be surprised if that hurts her when it’s time to actually fight.”

As Nova speaks, Brick looks on into her eyes and then watches her lips. Somewhere far off, ‘Hello’ by Lionel Richie is playing softly.

She’s still speaking, “Admittedly, I feel at a disadvantage against her as my specialty is more in the technical aspects of wrestling, but in Fight Union, where fights aren’t going to be often found inside of your atypical wrestling ring, Ms. Bratton will easily find herself excelling. My job is to prepare as best I can for a woman who’s not shy to get violent anyway she can.”

Nova looks at Brick, waiting for a response, but he just has a contented smile on his face. She finally clears her throat.

This startles Brick, “Huh?” He shakes his head, “Oh. Yeah. Lara Bratton does seem pretty fierce. Like a really pissed off cat. Or like an angry ferret. Maybe like. Uhm… I know a rabid raccoon. But like can turn the rabid on and off, or something. I don’t know if that’s a thing.”

Brick pulls out a pen.

“Another great answer,” Brick nods, as he writes, he wants her to think he’s smart and taking notes about her response, but he’s actually just writing “Brick & Nova” over and over again and drawing hearts, “So, next question,” Brick glances at Nico, who is off screen. Nico is still giving him a ‘death’ stare, so Brick puts his game face back on, “Right off the top of your head, what is your main goal to achieve at Fight Union?”

It’s hard to entirely take him seriously, but she manages to bite back that persistent threat of an awkward smirk as she considers the question. Then, “My main goal has already been achieved. For people like Lara Bratton the end goal might be something nebulous, she’s had loads of experiences, and loads of chances, but for me this is my first, and for all I know it might be my last. My goal is to make the most of this opportunity, and that’s exactly what I’m doing, sitting here with you, prepping for this match, aiming to succeed. It might sound boring, but I never thought I’d get this far. And here I am. My goal after this is to just keep on trying my best to get further than I am in this moment. In my best attempts, it’s going to be amazing even if I fail.”

Hers is an aspirational smile as she nods softly to herself.

“Another great answer!” Brick hides the fact that he’s unsure what ‘nebulous’ means. He thinks that it’s a reference to a gel like substance, “Very eye opening. I don’t like nebulous stuff. Got some at the dollar store and it made a mess of the couch. Big mistake, let me tell you,” he pauses, wishing he hadn’t said that, “Anyway, you know what I mean. Next question… If you could face anyone on the roster, right now, who would it be?”

“Well, to be honest with you, Brick, I haven’t looked much farther than the opponent already in front of me.” She has to stop herself. Such a comment could sound shortsighted. She stammers a moment before continuing, “The Union Division has a roster stacked with talent, and I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t sized up those I might face if I make it past Lara. But, truthfully, I’m game for any opponent. No preferences. I’m here to test myself, to be the best I can possibly be. I’m not going to be the best until I’ve beaten everybody.”

“Another good answer. You’re really good at answers.”

For a moment, Brick pictures riding a horse together with Nova, he can almost feel his arms wrapped around her muscular torso as they gallop down the beach.

He snaps out of it.

“Next question… Your opponent, Lara Bratton, has already declared that she is going to enter the open invite Outlaw Battle Royal. What are your thoughts on that? You’re going to be facing a Bratton who may already be gassed out. To add onto that question, do you plan on entering the battle royal as well?”

Off camera, Nico gives Brick a smile and a ‘thumbs up’ for not fucking up at least one of the questions.

“I hadn’t planned on it, to be entirely honest. I mean, I’m not entering the battle royal. So I won’t be ‘gassing’ myself out, to use your expression. I think it’s great that Lara’s attempting that, and I honestly wish her well. It’d be a huge feat if she pulled off a series of title wins at Violent Behavior 1, but I guess it’s my job to make sure that as far as she and I are concerned, one of those titles assuredly won’t be hers at the end of the night.”

She smiles, reining it back modestly to not seem too overconfident.

Brick takes a break from picturing Nova covered in sweat, “Ok, I’m going to say some names of members of both the roster and staff of Fight Union and I want you to say the first thing that pops into your head. Ready?”

“Sure,” she smiles, not entirely ready. “I’m ready.”

Brick shifts in his seat, looking like he’s got something great in store.

“Ok, so we’re going to start out easy and steadily it will get harder as we go.”

Brick looks at the camera with a huge toothy grin and a wink before continuing.

“Bacon!”

Nova frowns, eyeing him wondering if he’s being serious.

“Bacon isn’t a member of the roster, Brick.”

Brick peers at her knowingly and nods slowly, “You’re correct. That was a trick question er word or whatever,” Brick lets out a heavy mouth-breathe before continuing, “Judith Albrecht!”

She smiles thoughtfully a minute, before,

“A lot of tattoos. Hard worker.” Her eyes drift towards him, mindful of her responses.

“Mikhail Gorbachev…Reinhardt!”

Another smirk from Nova.

“I think you don’t mean Gorbachev. But, Mikhail Reinhardt? Decorated competitor with a lot of potential.”

“Skeletons too. Spooky. Ok, let’s shift gears to staff. Kassandrah! She’s not really staff, but is uh, Tony’s girlfriend.” he says ‘girlfriend’ in that ‘young kid making fun of another’ kind of way.

“I haven’t met her, truthfully,” Nova adds innocently. “But I’ve heard she’s a reputed psychic.”

Under his breath, “Couldn’t tell me what color my underwear were, though,” he clears his throat and continues, “Back to the roster! Alyssa Daniels!”

“I’ll avoid raving about the color of her hair,” Nova chuckles. “And say she’s bound to shine if the right opportunities line up.”

“Final roster member, your opponent. Lara Bratton!”

“You already asked me my thoughts on Lara, I thought?” Nova chuckles. “But, I guess if I must, I’d say that she has the potential to win the Union Championship.”

“Well, it was supposed to be more like word association. Like I say ‘Tony Chu’ and you say ‘banana’ or I say ‘Cactus Jack Bronson’ and you say ‘taco’. Most of my things are food. I’m a hungry guy, but I like your answers.” Brick nods, “Well, thank you for coming and talking to me and now I’d like to give you a moment to just say anything else before we close this up and I get back to my sandwich!”

She has to think about it, eyeing Brick and attempting not to smirk too wide at his clear interest in that sandwich.

“Well, I don’t want to keep you from it. So I’ll make this sweet. I am honored to be taking part in Fight Union. There is an assembling of talent going on that is priming this federation for a bright future, and I’m humbled to have been accepted into that, and the best I can do is try my hardest to prove I’ve earned my place. With all my efforts brought to bear, I’m hopeful I will be bringing home the Union Championship after Violent Behavior!”

And with that said, this episode of Interview Corner grinds to a closing and it’s unclear whether or not Brick will be allowed to host another episode.
